Trading activity was rather subdued as we began a new week of trading. It was a battle between the Bulls and the Bears with the Bears taking the lead in to the close, with the major indices ending in negative territory. At the closing bell, here is how the major indices ended the session: the DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) posted a loss of 26.50 points to end the session at 13,612.98; the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) posted a loss of 8.46 points to end at 10,005.47 the NASDAQ posted a loss of 00.11 points today for a close at 2,626.60; the S&P 500 moved lower by 1.86 points to end at 1,531.05 and the RUSSELL 2000 moved lower by 1.91 points to close at 846.28.
The FTSE All-World Index ex-US (top Large/Mid Cap aggregate from over 2,700 stocks from the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (GEIS) which covers 90% of the worlds investable market capitalization) moved higher by 3.29 to close at 263.09 and the FTSE RAFI 1000 posted a gain of 32.66 points to close at 6,425.55.
Economic data released for the day:
Housing Market Index: Survey created by the National Association of Home Builders for a rating on the general economy and housing market conditions. U.S. NAHB June Housing Index came in at 28 versus Index Level of 30 in May.
The trend was mostly higher across the board today for the Energy Sector: Light crude moved higher by $1.09 today to close at $69.09 a barrel; Heating Oil moved higher by $0.02 on the session to close at $2.05 a gallon; Natural Gas moved lower by $0.23 today to close at $7.91 per million BTU and Unleaded Gas had no change on the session to close at $2.26 a gallon.
Metals Market ended the session mixed across the board today: Gold moved higher today for a gain of $1.20 to close at $659.90 an ounce; Silver closed lower by $0.03 at $13.24 an ounce; Platinum moved nicely higher today by $13.50 to close at $1,299.50 an ounce and Copper had no change on the day to close at $3.42 per pound.
On the Livestock and Meat Markets, the trend was mostly lower across the board today: Lean Hogs ended the day lower by 0.03 to close at 75.13; Pork Bellies ended the day lower by 1.28 to close 97.18; Live Cattle moved higher by 0.30 to close at 91.25 and Feeder Cattle ended the lower by 0.23 today to close at 106.73.
Other Commodities: Corn moved lower today for a loss of 0.75 to close at 423.50 and Soybeans moved higher again today to post a gain of 8.25 points to end the session at 889.00.
The e-mini Dow ended the session lower today, with a loss of 23 points to close at 13,768717. The total Dow Exchange Volume for the day came in at 118,513 which are comprised of Electronic, Open Auction and Cash Exchange. Bonds were mostly higher across the board today: 2 year bond closed higher by 1/32 at 99 24/32; 5 year bond closed higher by 2/32 at 98 20/32; 10 year bond closed higher by 4/32 at 95 2/32 and the 30 year bond closed lower by 3/32 at 92 13/32.
The end of day results for the CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) which is comprised of the total Exchange Volume for Futures and Options (EVFO) including Electronic, Open Auction and Cash Exchange ended the day at 4,467,631; Open Interest for Futures moved lower by 3,724 points to close at 10,033,736; the Open Interest for Options moved higher by 161,719 points to close at 8,695,183 and the Open Interest for OTC closed with no change at 5,121 for a total Open Interest of 18,734,040 for a total gain on the day by 157,995.
On the NYSE today, advancers came in at 1,534; decliners totaled 1,691; unchanged came in at 115; new highs came in at 270 and new lows came in at 26. Gainers and losers for the day on the NYSE: MasterCard International (MA) rallied yet higher today for a gain of 6.97 points with a high on the trading session of $164.82, low on the session of $158.23 to close the day at $164.62; Genesco Incorporated (GCO) moved higher on the trading day by 4.15 points for a closing price of $53.75; Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings (CME) shed 6.71 points on the trading day with a high of $552.50, a low on the day of $543.00 for a closing price at $545.99 and Terra Nitrogen Company L.P (TNH) posted a gain of 5.20 points with a high on the day of $117.16, a low of $108.03 for a final trading price of $116.70.
On the NASDAQ today, advanced totaled 1,420 decliners totaled 1,601; unchanged came in at 168; new highs came in at 143 and new lows came in at 37. Gainers and losers for the day on the NASDAQ: FCStone Group Incorporated (FCSX) moved higher by 3.38 points on the trading day for a final trading price of $58.24; Rural Cellular Corporation (RCCC) fell sharply on the trading day for a loss of 4.30 points, loss of 10.18% for a final trading day price of $37.94; Google Incorporated (GOOG) bolted higher on the trading day to gain 9.11 points, a high of $516.00, a low of $504.24 with a closing trading day price of $515 and Baidu.com Incorporated (BIDU) posted a gain of 5.43 points on the session with a closing price of $148.50.
