The funding from the National Science Foundation will help Medipacs develop a small disposable liquid drug delivery patch that would provide a significant breakthrough in medical care. The grant was awarded through the NSF Biotechnology Emerging Opportunities Initiative for technologies that have the potential to be commercialized within 2-3 years.

Medipacs has teamed up with Dominic McGrath, Ph.D. at the University of Arizona Chemistry Department. The University of Arizona is a strong research institution and will be a great asset in the development of the new polymers proposed for the successful completion of the project.

Medipacs is developing the first Digital Pump™ technology for use in medical pumps and drug delivery devices. The technology is a proprietary, all plastic, pump system that is programmable and does not use motors or valves. The Medipacs products are expected to significantly reduce the cost of accurate, liquid drug delivery, to healthcare providers and patients alike.

Company spokesperson Laurie Hassey states. “To win the grant Medipacs demonstrated that the company had a breakthrough technology, a first class, experienced management team, along with an outstanding science and technology development team. The NSF grant award really validates how far we have progressed both in our research and business strategy execution, it is quite a privilege to be able to say that Medipacs is supported in part by the National Science Foundation.”

Medipacs (medipacs.com) is currently at the Arizona Center for Innovation at the University of Arizona’s Science and Technology Park. The Arizona Center for Innovation has been working hard to build Tucson as one of the top technology cities in the country.
