Interviews with Plymouth Tube Company general manager Dan Janikowski and Trent Tube technical director Edward Blessman, accompanied by a statistical review, illustrate the recent crossover to less copper and nickel usage in coal-fired and nuclear power plants, according to StockInterview.com.

Janikowski and Blessman cited corrosive resistance, improved thermal performance, new copper discharge regulations, environmental concerns, record-high nickel prices, and the substitution of treated sewage water or seawater for fresh water as having a direct impact on the crossover to super-ferritics from austenitics and copper-nickel tubes in power plant reactors. They both foresee growth areas in both desalination and waste water treatment pipes for super-ferritics.

Janikowski told StockInterview about the demand for super-ferritic stainless steel, “This year, at the pace we are going, we will sell more of this tubing than we’ve ever sold before. We are working at a record pace.” Janikowski foresees increasing use of molybdenum because of the rising demand in super-ferritics. Molybdenum content comprises up to four percent of this stainless steel.
