The fastest growing operator in Malaysia, DiGi set out to prove itself as a market challenger; and it did just that.
DiGi also clinched the 2007 Mobile Data Service Provider of the Year Award, marking the third consecutive year in which it has received this honour.
The awards came as part of the annual initiative by global growth consulting company, Frost & Sullivan to recognize outstanding performance by companies in the telecommunications industry in Malaysia. DiGi’s performance is nothing short of remarkable given that the operator has neither a 3G nor WiMAX license.
DiGi was selected to receive the awards based on its sterling performance in 2006, including recording the highest net addition of over half a million subscribers and growth in subscriber base of 10.8 percent. The company also grew its mobile data revenues by a massive 41.3 percent, with an equally impressive growth in total mobile revenues of 30 percent, owing to its leadership in product innovation and sound marketing strategies.
Sin Siew Teyew, director of telecoms at Frost & Sullivan, says, “DiGi has proven to be a formidable challenger in the Malaysian market having launched many first innovative offerings, and by the same token, is keeping its competitors on their toes.”
The company has been at the forefront in offering innovative and compelling solutions with the introduction of many firsts - including one low flat-rate; off-net calls to prepaid family and friends; instant activation upon registration; free calls for postpaid family and friends; and unlimited broadband mobility for prepaid users.
DiGi was also the first operator to allow sharing of unlimited package bundled with a supplementary SIM for data, as well as mobilize the concept of business without a fixed phone targeted at the SME (small and medium enterprise) segment.
DiGi’s chief executive officer, Morten Lundal said, “We accept the double endorsement as evidence that we are on the right track driving the telco industry through innovation, simplicity and best value. They will, undoubtedly, fuel our passion to do better and bring more relevant services to our customers.”
The awards were conferred to DiGi at the recent 2007 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Telecoms Awards which was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Energy, Water and Communications, Dato’ Shaziman Abu Mansor.
The recipients of the 2007 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Telecoms Awards were determined by an independent panel of judges comprising key personalities from Malaysia’s telecommunications industry, as well as the media. Contenders were measured on a variety of actual market performance parameters for financial year 2006, including revenue growth, market share and growth in market share, leadership in product innovation, breadth of products and solutions, major customer acquisitions, subscriber base and growth in subscriber base, ARPU (average revenue per user) and growth in ARPU, data strategy, next generation service strategy, and business and market strategy.
