Scrapping 4 Inclusion has officially launched with the first event very successfully held on National Scrapbooking Day, May 5th in Salt Lake City, Utah. The first event had 35-40 eager scrapbookers in attendance and they raised over $1,800. Susan Catmull with Top Line-Creations had this to say about why she became involved with Scrapping 4 Inclusion:
“Well since I have a brother with Down's Syndrome I know what a struggle parents have to get their kids involved in good programs to help them progress. Everyone deserves the opportunity to be included in society—not be separated out of it. By having this fun scrapbooking event it makes it easy to raise money for The Bubel/Aiken Foundation and help kids all over the country to be included!”
Right on the heels of the first event was another very successful event held in Falls Church, Virginia on May 19. This event raised $2,600 with over 50 in attendance. DJ Tasker from Scrapeppers shares with us her reasons for getting involved.
“It is both reassuring and a bit disturbing to know that my son is only one of thousands of children with a developmental disability label in this area. I thank TBAF for understanding that until we know what causes these afflictions; how to prevent and cure them, there is a great need for community education and awareness. I myself was guilty of labeling a child as spoiled or bratty and in need of good parenting until I had a child with special needs. Because of my son, my family and friends are educated and now, aren't so quick to judge or presume…if only everyone could be as educated”.

“Scrapbooking is a hobby that many people enjoy and a wonderful way to preserve your memories. How nice and fitting it is that those who cherish and wish to preserve their memories are giving children with disabilities a chance to create memories of their own. My thanks go out to all those involved in these wonderful events!” says Diane Bubel Co-Founder of TBAF.
“We are excited about the opportunity Scrapping 4 Inclusion presents to bring about greater awareness for the need for inclusion in every community. We hope many people will be exposed to the benefits of including ALL children in community participation while enjoying the fun and fellowship of a favorite hobby.” states Aron Hall, Director of Services, TBAF.
With a long term goal of having fundraising crops in 250 US cities, we are well on our way with 45 locations actively planning their local event. If you are interested in getting involved, we are always looking for additional volunteers to plan events in their own community. You do not need to be a scrapbooker to get involved, you only need the desire to help. The more volunteers involved the more voices there are to raise awareness. For more information on how you can volunteer please email.
About Scrapping 4 Inclusion
The mission of Scrapping 4 Inclusion (scrapping4inclusion.com) is to combine one of the fastest growing hobbies in North America with the need for creating awareness and raising funds on behalf of The Bubel/Aiken Foundation. A Scrapping 4 Inclusion Crop can be customized by each Organizer to fit with what they are personally able to manage and what the market in their community will bare. The program has been designed to make it as flexible and simple as possible to plan.
The program is still in the early stages but it’s so exciting to be at the start of something that has the potential to be GREAT! The Scrapping 4 Inclusion team is working together to help create the absolute ‘BEST PICTURE’ possible for the future of today’s children. When everybody WINS, it certainly is great to be a participant and not just a spectator.
