HandHeld Entertainment™ (NASDAQ: ZVUE), a global digital entertainment company, today announced it has begun offering its customers free, ad-supported, streaming video segments from Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC/Radio-Canada).
Under terms of the agreement with CBC/Radio-Canada, HandHeld Entertainment will stream free, ad-supported CBC news and entertainment video segments on the HandHeld network of seven Web sites from some of the most popular and successful CBC television shows, including “The National,” “CBC News Sunday,” “ZeD,” “The Hour,” “Fashion File” and “Retrobites.” Select interviews with actors such as Academy Award®, winner Russell Crowe and Golden Globe® winner Jim Carrey, as well as hit recording artists such as Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks, Norah Jones, Ludacris and Josh Groban will be available for free viewing on all of HandHeld Entertainment’s Web sites. Viewers will also have access to fashion tips from the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier, Louis Vuitton and Oscar de la Renta because of the new streaming agreement.
“These streaming selections profile some of the hottest celebrities and are among the most informative and entertaining segments on the Internet,” said Jeff Oscodar, president and chief executive officer of HandHeld Entertainment. “For example, some of the most recent CBC segments include a feature on pop sensation Avril Lavigne and her newest album, as well as a news report about the two world-famous, hand-holding otters from the Vancouver Aquarium. As such, CBC is great partner for providing news, information and entertainment that our customers around the world want to see.
“We’ve now started making these and other CBC selections available for free viewing at ZVUE.com™, and we’ll soon begin offering these segments on our six other Web sites as well. Our partnership with CBC is a further step in reaching our goals of bringing both premium content and user-generated content to our global audience and establishing a strong advertising-based online business model.”
Free streaming CBC video segments will soon be available from each of HandHeld Entertainment’s six other Web properties: Putfile.com™, YourDailyMedia.com™, FunMansion.com™, Dorks.com™, UnOriginal.co.uk™ and Holylemon.com™. As a result of this and a previous agreement with CBC, HandHeld’s customers will be able to view these free selections on any personal computer, HandHeld’s branded ZVUE™ personal media players and other PMPs that support Windows Media Player.
“This new agreement is an excellent way to help get our great shows and video segments into the hands of Canadians and non-Canadians alike around the world,” said Bob Kerr, director, business and platform development for CBC/Radio-Canada.
