According to David Frigstad, Chairman of Frost & Sullivan, “The Choice Awards are part of Frost & Sullivan’s continuing Global program to recognize outstanding companies who exhibit the best practices across key growth drivers. Our belief is that companies who excel will continue to grow and flourish.”

“The CXOs’ Choice Award for Mobile Communications and Computing research covers a variety of categories of which business leaders such as CEOs, CIOs and other high-ranking executives are asked to evaluate mobile communications and computing products and services based upon their professional and personal experiences” says Tonya Fowler, Director of the Choice Award Program. Specifically, Frost & Sullivan asks business leaders – CXOs – to choose the “best” mobile products and services related to the following categories: Laptop PCs, Mobile Phones, PDAs, and Smartphones.

“While CXOs may select any mobile product or service for which they deem as ‘best’ for the survey categories, many of the same companies have been recognized as winners since 2005 and thus, are repeat contenders for Frost & Sullivan’s Choice Awards” said Fowler. Leading candidates being nominated include:

• Apple
• Blackberry/RIM
• Dell
• HP/Compaq
• IBM
• Motorola
• Nokia
• Palm
• Sony
• Verizon Wireless

“In previous years,” continues Fowler “we asked CXOs to choose which companies they thought were best for various ‘sub-categories’ or components of the products/services, such as reliability, quality, ease of use, etc…and while we will continue to test those sub-categories, this year we are adding an ‘overall’ category for the main products/services. This will allow us to determine which companies are voted as the overall best – independent and dependent – of the sub-categories that make them #1.”

The 2006 U.S. CXOs’ Choice Evaluation of Mobile Communications and Computing research resulted in the following companies being chosen as “best” for the following categories:

• Apple was voted best for their laptops, specifically related to their Design & Looks, Innovation, Multimedia Capabilities, and Screen Quality;
• Blackberry/RIM was chosen as best for their PDAs, specifically related to their Customer Service, Ease of Use, Quality, Reliability, and Wireless Capabilities. Additionally, Blackberry/RIM was recognized as having the Best Quality Smartphones;
• Dell was selected as best for their laptops, specifically related to their Customer Service, Quality, Reliability, Use in the Office, and Value;
• Motorola was voted best for their mobile phones, specifically related to their Bluetooth Headsets, Design & Looks, Digital Camera, Display, Innovation, and Quality;
• Nokia was chosen as having the Best Value for mobile phones;
• Palm was voted best for their PDAs, specifically related to their Design & Looks, Innovation and Screen Quality. Additionally, Palm was recognized as being the best for their Smartphones, specifically related to their Applications, Design & Looks, Innovation and Multimedia Capabilities;
• Sony was chosen as the Best Travel Laptop;
• Verizon Wireless swept its entire category for wireless service provider…as they were selected as best for their Call Rates, Customer Service, Network Coverage, Quality, Security, and Wireless Web Services.

Specifically, Frost & Sullivan’s panel of CEOs and CIOs will be utilized for this research as well as other upcoming research.
