Remember how it all started on Fort Lauderdale Beach? Well we do and it wasn't Spring Break!
It was back when Fort Lauderdale Beach was a hunting and fishing reserve a little bar in 1938 was open named, "The Elbo Room".
The Elbo Room was one of the only commercial establishments on the Fort Lauderdale beach and catered to World War II military personnel on their leave from the front. Now 62 years after WWII the military men and women still let loose at the Elbo Room for Fleet Week and the Air & Sea Show!
Immortalized by the movie "Where the Boys Are?" the Elbo Room has become an institution in American tradition. Now the Elbo Room celebrates its 69 birthday.
"Your favorite bar turns your favorite number; 69! That is 69 years of turning upside down at the Elbo Room!", says owner Michele Penrod.
How does a little bar become so famous for so long? We asked co-owner Tracey Higney. "Well it is a scientific fact that the Elbo Room is the center APEX of the Bermuda Triangle," "So it must be Earth's magnetic force!" said Tracey Higney.
Well whatever it might be that make's the Elbo Room such an amazing place to have fun we sure have enjoyed the past 69 years and look forward to 69 more. This weekend we will make sure to stop by ElboRoom.com to see what is going on the Live Webcams, watch & listen to the bands online or meet people in the chat rooms.
But if you are able to make it down to Fort Lauderdale beach this weekend, I am sure you will be satisfied with an amazing show once again by the US military show of training, technology and pride. Thank you Troops!
