Selected milestones: Established in 1987 in a cramped attic "office" with leading-edge Amstrad computers – but no hard disk – the company focused from the start on high technology. Customers today include international majors in the aerospace, oil and environment industries. The firm rapidly moved to its present headquarters to house its team of interpreters, translators and administrative staff and a fast-expanding network of professional linguists in over 40 countries.
HTT became an approved translation supplier to the European Commission in 1994, and launched an ISO 9001 certification initiative in 2000 as part of the Inttranet™ project, in which the company headed a design team of interpreters, translators, associations and institutions from 26 countries.
The Inttranet™ portal, which opened in 2002, provides a complete range of services for professional interpreters and translators, including one of the most complete CVs in the world, which can not only be updated on-line at any time by its owner, but can also be automatically displayed in any of the 33 language versions in which the portal is available.
Calls for tender worth more than EUR 350 million were published on the portal in 2006 alone, a year marked by the admittance of the Inttranet™ to the UNESCO Observatory for the Information Society.
In 2003, the same HTT design team expanded the portal to include Terminall™, a multilingual terminology database compatible with the ISO 12616 terminographic standard, partially funded by a research grant from the French government. Terminall™ can not only display search and target terms in any language via an interface in any other, but also means freelancers can store and sell the results of their terminology research, which represents up to one third of the work of a professional translator.
In 2004, the HTT design team launched Inttranews™, which has quickly become the leading news service for the language industry. The site a monthly readership of 45,000 linguists in 90 countries, and is syndicated by interpreters' and translators' associations around the world. The service, which is currently available in English and French, publishes 24 reports every day on all the events and issues of interest or concern to linguists, and has some 20,000 articles in its on-line archives.
In 2005, HTT helped launch the Inttranet™ Linguist of the Year awards, to recognise the struggle - and sometimes the personal sacrifice - of linguists who have helped increase public awareness of the importance of work in languages during the year.
The latest development by HTT is the Exttranet™, a multi-lingual, multi-criteria Search and CV system for professional interpreters and translators that can be displayed on any website, computer, or mobile communication system in the appropriate language.
In 2007, to celebrate its 20th anniversary, for the first time, Inttranet™, Terminall™, Inttranews™ and Exttranet™ were all included in the scope of the ISO 9001:2000 recertification obtained by HTT.
What's next? The company intends to stay at the forefront of the translation industry, and continue to provide the best, innovative services for its customers and colleagues.
