zanox, the global leader in performance-based multichannel commerce, has today revealed most online transactions take place on a Monday (1). The peak shopping time is on average between 8 and 9 PM, shifting to early afternoon during the summer months. The figures are drawn from Shop@ stores since the beginning of 2005. Last year, zanox’s online marketing services generated a total e-commerce volume of $2.5 billion.
The popularity of online shopping is increasing, with around 20 million people in the UK alone having purchased something online in the last six months, averaging 10 purchases and increasing with age (2). Additionally, Forrester (3) predicts that the average online spend per person in Europe will increase from €1,109 in 2007 to €1,496 in 2011.
In the US, Forrester (4) predicts that online retail will continue to experience double-digit growth, with e-commerce business-to-consumer sales expected to top $200 billion in 2009 and to grow to more than $270 billion in 2011.
A possible explanation for the Monday peak could be that consumers are researching their purchases in shopping malls at the weekend and then searching for the best price online.
zanox currently has a local presence in more than 30 countries and offers its services in all relevant online marketing channels. In addition to affiliate marketing, the company also offers search engine management, e-mail marketing, online shopping and customer loyalty programs.
