The American Business Association of Russian Professionals (AmBAR) announced its first technology investment conference Silicon Valley Open Doors (SVOD), which will take place at the Quadrus Conference Center on Sand Hill Road and at Stanford University on November 14 -16, 2005.
The goals of the conference are to highlight investment and business development opportunities available in Russia, Ukraine, and other emerging European countries to US investors and corporate leaders; to assist companies and universities as well as individual entrepreneurs in the creation and commercialization of high-technology products and expansion into international markets; and to help overseas investors identify partners among US venture capital firms.
Despite the significant scientific and innovation potential of the Former Soviet Union (FSU) countries, there is a gap between the technology entrepreneurship in these countries and the global market. The conference will fill in this gap by bringing together high-technology companies, entrepreneurs and top US venture capital firms as well as technology, marketing and business development professionals from the leading Silicon Valley companies.

The SVOD program will include companies’ exhibits and presentations, as well as individual training sessions and seminars taught by leading venture capitalists, Stanford Graduate School of Business faculty, US lawyers, and other experts in the areas of entrepreneurial finance, business development, and general management. The list of presenters includes renowned executives from some of the leading technology companies such as John Morgridge, Chairman of the Board, Cisco Systems; Christopher Hummel, VP of Services Marketing and Business Development, Oracle Corporation; Dave Girouard, General Manager, Google Enterprise, Franklin P. Johnson, founding partner of Asset Management Company, and many others. The speakers will cover a variety of topics related to successful high-technology ventures such as developing business plans, structuring deals, transferring intellectual property and building high-performing management teams. Representatives of major Silicon Valley companies will speak about the role of corporate partnerships in the technology business. There will be a special program for Russian/FSU investors as well as sessions designed for university presidents from Russia/FSU on commercialization of scientific ideas.
