Aston Science Park, Birmingham, United Kingdom, 04/10/2007 - The regeneration of one of the West Midlands’ most deprived communities has been praised by the chairman of Advantage West Midlands.

Board members from the regional development agency visited the site as part of a tour of major projects funded by Advantage West Midlands in Coventry and Warwickshire.
This included a visit to the new £2 million community building which was part-funded by Advantage West Midlands, and is due to open to the public in the next few weeks.
The building provides state-of-the-art learning facilities, a library, IT suite and recreation hall.
The redevelopment of the Camp Hill estate in Nuneaton started in 2000 and is a partnership between a host of organisations including Advantage West Midlands, Coventry Solihull and Warwickshire Partnership, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Warwickshire County Council, the Prince’s Foundation and residents and businesses in the area.
The aim is to transform the estate, which has a population of over 6,000, through a series of social and economic regeneration schemes heavily involving the local community.
Already 172 new houses have been built on the estate, transforming the quality of life, while work is underway on a new village centre including shops and community facilities.
Advantage West Midlands has already invested £8.5 million in the first phases of development and is currently considering an application for a further £12 million towards the £140 million third phase.
Nick Paul, Advantage West Midlands Chairman, said: “Pride in Camp Hill is undoubtedly one of the most impressive regeneration projects I have seen during my visits around the region.
“I was particularly taken by the new community building which will be a fantastic asset for the estate when it opens.
“The way the regeneration activity links in with the community sets a real example for how Agencies should view social and economic regeneration.
“The enthusiasm and passion I have seen during the visit of the Board to this part of Nuneaton is exceptional and everybody who has been involved in the regeneration of Camp Hill should be congratulated for their efforts.”
