Latest Russian IT Quarterly Uncovers Russian Participation at CeBIT 2007

NewswireToday - /newswire/ - St Petersburg, Russia, 04/09/2007 - While the Russian IT community is doing the aftermath of CeBIT, let us take a look at this year's newest trends which made themselves apparent at Europe's largest technology fair.

I believe that everyone who is not a novice to ICT must have heard about the giant CeBIT exhibition, so I will focus on the matters that only have to do with Russia.

2007 is a special year for Russian exhibitors at the trade show. A CeBIT partner, with its 150 exhibitors and evident governmental support, Russia was the new CeBIT guest star. The unprecedented intensity of PR activity around the country's ICT sector definitely helped to promote the Russian IT exporting companies in Europe. The government efforts appear to have taken root - the 'Russian idea' is well supported now by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Apart from bringing in thousands of matryoshkas, Russian companies were presented in almost all technology categories - from web design services and anti-virus software to hardware manufacturing and complex automation packages. The registered trend of this year is the appearance of "big Russians" at the fair - there is a growing interest among domestic systems integrators and product companies in international expansion. A number of leading local brands were presenting at CeBIT this year and it really makes sense to anticipate their continuing efforts in penetrating the European market.

This year's CeBIT was characterized by the massive participation of high profile officials from both Russia and Germany. The Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the fair by visiting the showcase of the Ministry of IT and Communications of Russia. The Chancellor said she hoped this event would boost collaboration between Russia and Germany in high technology sector with "completely new contacts".

The Russian Government was represented by a team lead by the Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Naryshkin. Delegation brought by Mr. Naryshkin included people from the ICT Ministry as well as representatives of the local governments. Their active presence worked to secure the attention of German media, thus additionally contributing to the promotion of Russian high-tech sector.

Quoting the Russian Ministry of IT and Communications, the media made public the latest industry statistics: Russia's IT export reached the volume of $1.8 billion in 2006 and shall grow up to $10 billion by 2010. According to the Ministry estimates, the whole IT sector grew by 17% reaching $13.6 billion whereas the telecommunications market increased up to $28.1 billion (growth of 21%).

Let us hope that lots of "new contacts", mentioned by the Chancellor Merkel in her speech, will turn into actual new contracts for the CeBIT exhibitors from Russia.
