A trainset designed especially for this event should allow a speed of at least 540 km/h.

Breaking record history
On March 18, 1999 in a five-car train set attained a maximum speed of 548 km/h. On April 14, 1999, this five-car train set surpassed the speed record of the three-car train set, attaining a maximum speed of 552 km/h in a manned vehicle run.

The countdown has already started. Alstom’s experts and its partners, the SNCF and RFF, are currently conducting the final technical adjustments for this event, code named “V150”. This code name (standing for 150 metres/second) is related to the world rail speed record attempt that should take place at the beginning of April, on the future East-European high speed line. Seventeen years after the TGV™(1) achieved the world rail speed record at 515.3 km/h, the new trainset, designed especially by Alstom and SNCF for this attempt, is expected to shatter the current rail speed record.

Manufactured by Alstom, the V150 reached the European East Technicenter - located in the Parisian suburb of Pantin-Bobigny and charged with the trainset daily maintenance.

It is made up of two POS power cars (built by Alstom in Belfort and adapted by the SNCF workshops in Bischheim) that will ultimately operate on the East TGV™ line, threeTGV™ Duplex double-decker carriages and three AGV™ motorized bogies. In total, the V150 can develop an output of 19.6 megawatts (over 25,000 horsepower), against 9.3 megawatts (12,500 horsepower) for a conventional TGV™ and almost twice as much power as is developed by all the cars present on the grid at the start of a Formula I Grand Prix race. Réseau Ferré de France, Alstom and SNCF present the train that will take on the world speed record
As part of the "French Excellence in Very High Speed Rail Transport" program and in the run-up to the attempt on the world rail speed record, Hubert du Mesnil, President of Réseau Ferré de France (RFF), Philippe Mellier, President of Alstom Transport and Guillaume Pépy, Chief Executive Officer of SNCF, will today unveil the train that will perform the record run, dubbed "V150", at the SNCF's European East Technicenter in Pantin-Bobigny, Paris.
