“Hibernating” 4-Inch Battery Pack Conserves Power with Motion Detection
Compact GPS units, long used to aid in police and private investigations, transmit their location, and any item they are attached to, from anywhere in the world. Highly useful for tracking vehicles, or other property, GPS units are accurate and convenient devices, which until recently, required constant battery power, resulting in frequent battery replacements, and costly hours of human monitoring.
“Our new case uses battery power only when the object is moving,” said Gilbert Walz, co-owner of Tracking The World. “Five minutes after motion has stopped the World Tracker will power down,” said Walz.
The hibernating pack is available in both 7.8 amp/Hr and 15.6 amp/Hr models. Lithium-ion battery life with the 15.6 amp/Hr model is extended from 14 days of constant power to as many as 90 days of power with the hibernation feature. The 7.8 amp/Hr model increases battery life from 7 days of constant power to as many as 60 days utilizing hibernation.
“This pack will easily extend the life of GPS batteries up to three times,” said Walz.
One of the most convenient and cost-effective features of the new hibernating case is that it can be left unattended for weeks. The sleek combination of Tracking the World’s new battery pack and their completely programmable GPS unit virtually eliminates the need for human monitoring, as the unit will automatically call up to five cell phones and send email alerts when the battery pack detects motion.
A mere 4.37 inches long, Tracking the World’s new battery pack is about half the size of its conventional counterparts when housed in its waterproof and crush-proof Pelican™ case.
Tracking The World, (TrackingTheWorld.com) a California-based firm specializing in security-related GPS technology, recently released a hibernating battery case for use in compact GPS units that significantly conserves battery power by using motion detection. Extending battery life up to 90 days, the device, which requires rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, automatically powers down after 5 minutes of sensing no motion.
The new hibernating battery pack is available from any distributor of Tracking The World products.
