PPG has received Federal Aviation Administration approval to repair sliding and aft fixed cockpit windows for Airbus A320 Family jetliners, affording cost savings to airlines and other aircraft operators. The approval authorizes PPG to repair glass window assemblies produced by any manufacturer for Airbus A318, A319, A320 and A321 airplanes and the recently launched NEO (new engine option) Family.
The approved procedures include replacing the glass panels with new PPG window panels and reusing and refurbishing frame retainers from PPG or other suppliers.
“Operators rely on PPG for its expertise in transparency repair services to reduce their costs,” said Arthur Scott, PPG global director, commercial aircraft transparencies. “Being able to offer FAA-approved repairs for the cockpit side windows on these Airbus airplanes gives operators a new option for window maintenance.”
PPG performs repairs at its Huntsville, Alabama, facility, where it operates an FAA-licensed repair station and makes the original-equipment and replacement parts.
PPG’s cockpit side windows for the Airbus A320 Family are designed with the glass panels and retainers as complete assemblies while being distinct components, enabling replacement of the glass panels with reuse of airworthy retainers.
In addition to the FAA-approved repair service, PPG offers replacement window assemblies as well as window panels.
“With this design, airlines having FAA or regional aviation authority approval that are equipped with the necessary maintenance operations also can perform repairs,” Scott said.
PPG has produced a seven-minute video that explains benefits of the PPG repair process for cockpit side windows for the A320 Family. The video is posted on the PPG aerospace website at
The video also can be viewed by visitors to the Farnborough International Airshow at PPG’s booth in Hall 1, Stand B160. PPG is displaying its latest-design cockpit side windows and windshield for the A320 Family. The airshow is July 11-17.
