SCHOTT, the international technology group, is debuting its A2 glass fiber universal light guides at this year’s American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) tradeshow. These fiber optic light guides, used in endoscopic diagnostics and surgical treatments, exceed the industry’s standard for illumination while remaining cost advantageous for buyers. SCHOTT is introducing these A2 fibers at the show, scheduled for March 2 to 4 at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center (booth #2715).
Joining the industry-leading PURAVIS® fiber light guides in SCHOTT’s portfolio, these new A2 fibers produce better light transmission and color rendition than other A2 fibers already on the market. SCHOTT uses superior materials during manufacturing to achieve these features; the company forms the bundles from the highest quality glass melts, resulting in the best light guide available at its price point.
The A2 fibers feature high temperature epoxy terminations, making them resistant to degradation from heat and autoclaving. These universal light guides come in the standard length of 300 cm, and in 4.8 mm and 3.5 mm diameters. Both sizes are now available.
“SCHOTT’s A2 light guide is a premium product at a competitive cost,” said Tom Bender, Director of Sales at SCHOTT Lighting and Imaging. “The health care industry is placing more importance on preventative medicine and less intrusive procedures, which is why light delivery systems are being refined and expanded. As endoscopes’ role evolves, light guides must better illuminate the body and help doctors make accurate diagnoses through the clearest and brightest light.”
SCHOTT’s A2 fiber light guides are now available for U.S. and international customers. SCHOTT is keeping costs competitive by manufacturing these light guides at North American production sites, a strategy that also ensures faster processing and delivery timeframes to customers worldwide.
“The A2 fibers, together with our PURAVIS® product line, represent the most consistent and highest quality light for endoscopes and medical devices,” Bender said. “Through improved fibers, light guides deliver cleaner and more accurate light, which benefits doctors and, more importantly, their patients.”
