In addition to PCRT, Vibrant Corporation’s resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) technology can be utilized to specifically evaluate the elastic material properties of high-tech aerospace materials in a laboratory setting. Broadband resonance data provided by RUS aids the monitoring of creep accumulation as well as mechanical and thermomechanical fatigue in sample components, and alerts customers in real time. Besides, the resonant frequencies evaluated by RUS can help characterize properties such as grain orientation in crystalline structures and porosity in advanced ceramics.
Vibrant is working on developing models that can predict the effects of material damage in laboratories. Its resonance measurements, combined with these models, will be used to build a strong inspection platform that the military and commercial aerospace OEMs can deploy in laboratories for R&D. PCRT inspections can be customized to detect specific damage mechanisms before real samples are available to demonstrate these deficiencies.
