On the occasion of the visit of Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and Mexican Delegation Authorities to France, Gérard Mestrallet, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ENGIE (formerly GDF SUEZ) concluded four cooperation agreements; two with PEMEX, one with the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission) and one with CENAGAS (National Center of Natural Gas Control).

The Memorandums of Understanding and Cooperation signed with PEMEX, CFE and CENAGAS demonstrate ENGIE’s desire to collaborate and work together on natural gas and power development projects.

With the CFE, the agreement involves exchanging technological knowledge, experiences and the best practices for environmentally-friendly developments in the natural gas and electricity industries.

With PEMEX, the agreements involve exploring the development of LNG projects on the Pacific coast of Mexico, infrastructures to transport gas via pipeline, as well as the possibility of executing a joint venture to commercialize natural gas. In addition, ENGIE and PEMEX will analyze plans for the development of efficient energy and efficient cogeneration projects aimed at executing possible joint ventures or association agreements, in particular a cogeneration plant located in the northeast of Mexico. In April last year, ENGIE already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Pemex, to develop natural gas and other energy projects.

Gérard Mestrallet said “We are keen to contribute to the major energy reform that Mexico is undergoing. As a long-term energy and services provider in Mexico, ENGIE is committed not only to investing in energy projects in Mexico, but also in sharing our international experience. We believe that these new agreements are a reflection of this spirit.”

ENGIE in Mexico
ENGIE in Mexico manages a range of energy businesses including electricity generation and cogeneration, natural gas distribution, natural gas transmission and energy services to commercial, industrial and residential customers. The company’s natural gas assets include six natural gas distribution companies that serve more than 420,000 customers; two natural gas transmission companies which operate over 1,000 km of pipelines serving the Mexican Electricity National Utility (CFE). In power, the company operates three power plants with 300 MW of capacity. ENGIE, in a joint venture with PEMEX, is developing the Ramones II South project, a pipeline of 308 km which will be part of the segment of the gas project Ramones Pipeline to strengthen gas infrastructure and gas availability in Mexico.

Through the “Rassembleurs d’Energies” initiative, ENGIE also supports the development of a social enterprise,“Eres Energia Renovable” whose mission is to bring electricity to 600,000 Mexican households that have no access to energy. Operating in 11 States of Mexico, this company offers individual solar systems to communities, schools and dispensaries that are not connected to the electricity grid and has installed over 3,000 systems providing 15,000 beneficiaries with green electricity.
