On February 28, 2007, the Levy Castle Family Foundation for Diabetes Research hosted its third annual “Jack’s Rangers Basketball Tournament”. Organized by David Levy of Rydal, PA and a director of employee benefits at Leon L. Levy & Associates, the tournament featured six teams with five to six players each, along with referees and spectators, and was held at the Wachovia Center on the Philadelphia 76ers’ basketball court. The event helped raise over $8,000 for the non-profit foundation to promote diabetes awareness and research.

The event gave participants the chance to be a “Pro for a Day” by playing on a full NBA court. The day featured a round robin tournament of five games per team and a championship game, with the winning team receiving 76ers prizes including authentic player apparel. After the tournament, participants had the opportunity to sit courtside and watch players from the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns warm-up on the court. This was followed by dinner in a luxury suite to watch the game. In the end, the Sixers beat the Suns 99-94 in an exciting game.

Jaimi and David Levy founded the Levy Castle Family Foundation as an effort to assist finding a cure for diabetes. Their son, Jack Levy, was diagnosed a Type 1 diabetic at the age of three years old. The annual basketball tournament is the largest fundraiser for the Foundation. The Foundation also participates every fall with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes, as well as the JDRF Promise Ball, which is the gala held by the local Philadelphia Southeastern region's JDRF chapter event.
