The line includes bags, wallets, backpacks, hats, belts, belt buckles, wristbands, tops – and a host of other accessories. Most of the pieces retail under $30. Visit spencersonline.com to ‘meet’ Heidi Minx, the force behind the line; there you’ll find interviews with bands, pictures, contests, tips and tricks, and an interactive blog.
Franky & Minx: New York-based Franky & Minx (frankyandminx.com) started in March of 2001 with the idealistic view of creating a company that combined street ethics with business. Minx had the firm belief that if a brand was started based on respect, that it would grow to earn respect. The line was based around the tattoo artists’ art, and her own punk rock and DIY design aesthetic. Models are friends – and include members of Sick of it All, Viva Hate, Left Alone, Bouncing Souls, Bif Naked, and Horrorpops.
Minx: Her personal ink collection includes work by Chris Garver, Cartoon, Elvis, Toshio Shimada and Troy Denning. In addition to contributing CD reviews and articles to magazines like YRB and Hardcore Ink, she is a proud Varla model, sponsors Black N Blue Productions, and is also co-hostess of Punk Rock Domestics. She attends Buddhism classes, customizes apparel and enjoys vegetarian cooking.
Elvis: Elvis is the Creative Director for the Franky & Minx line. He has been tattooing for the past eight years. He did his first tattoo on himself at the ripe old age of 12. After moving to New York, he worked at Fun City; the legendary New York Hardcore Tattoos, owned by Murphy's Law front man Jimmy Gestapo, and Vinnie Stigma of Agnostic Front. Elvis is currently working to open Side Show Tattoos in Austin, TX. His tattoo artwork can be seen onstage on Andrew WK, Travis (Gym Class Heroes), Aaron (Tossers), Bif Naked, and Vinnie Stigma.
