Breast cancer awareness. Underprivileged youth. AIDS and HIV victims. These are just a few of the causes PlattForm employees support through the Philanthropic Committee. When Jodi Augustine first got involved by designing the committee’s website, the only reward she was looking for was the knowledge that she had put her talent to good use. Winning an Omni Award was just an added bonus.
“The Philanthropic Committee wanted to create a place for employees to learn more about its causes,” Augustine said. “There are so many people at PlattForm who contribute to the community. I wanted to help give them a central place where they could all come together to raise awareness and motivate others.”
The PlattForm Philanthropic Site contains information about the following:
• Charity of the month
• Calendar of events
• Descriptions of past events
• A photo gallery
• A list of employees involved in different service organizations
• News articles about PlattForm’s philanthropic involvement
The site also features a contact form that allows charities and employees to submit information about their organizations or causes. The information is collected by PlattForm’s Philanthropic Committee and considered for future PlattForm service opportunities.
The Omni Awards recognize outstanding media production in the fields of television, video, radio, film, Internet and multimedia. Entries are rigorously judged by an awards committee comprised of experts from companies such as Disney, CNN, NBC, ABC, PBS, Cartoon Network and The Associated Press. PlattForm was presented with a bronze Omni in the Interactive Media category.
Though Augustine designed the website, true to the spirit of the project, the content was provided by employees throughout PlattForm.
“We believe in helping the community,” Augustine said. “More people working together means we have more to give. That’s why the Philanthropic Committee exists. That’s why this website exists, and I think that’s why PlattForm won this award.”
