Based on its recent analysis of the ultrasound imaging market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes ZONARE Medical Systems (ZONARE) with the 2014 North American Award for Enabling Technology Leadership. The company's products tower over other commercially available products for ultrasound imaging due to the pioneering ZONE Sonography ™ Technology (ZST) platform.
"ZONARE's ZST is an innovative new technology platform that enables better image quality, marking a departure from the industry's standard image acquisition techniques," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Bhargav Rajan. "ZST provides superior, highly focused and patient-specific images by personalizing the imaging process in patients."
While conventional ultrasound instruments employ a line-by-line approach to image capture, the ZST takes a "zone" approach by reducing the number of data sets and transmit-receive cycles. Consequently, ZONARE systems offer multiple benefits. First, ZST's data acquisition is nearly 10 times faster, improving temporal accuracy during real-time imaging. Second, ZST facilitates greater focus and retrospective image analysis of larger sample areas. Finally, because of the speed of data capture, the variations in sound propagation through the patient's body are rendered minimal and cease to impact image quality.
"In developing ZST, ZONARE has ushered in a paradigm shift in the dependence on custom-built hardware for better image quality and clinical benefits," noted Rajan. "ZST is effectively integrated into the data acquisition and image processing ends of the imaging process. A key indicator of ZST's positive impact on the ultrasound imaging industry is the variety of applications that it has successfully enabled."
Extensively used in radiology, vascular imaging, cardiac imaging, emergency medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and pre- and neonatal care, ZONARE has designed systems to meet the unique demands of each area in terms of transducer design requirements and patient profiles. All the systems maintain a small system footprint to enable point-of-care imaging, and have an intuitive and easy-to-use interface to minimize operator errors.
Further, ZONARE offers higher price performance value through its Living Technology™ program. This novel business initiative offers customers upgrades and service support for five years to keep their product state of the art. Further, ZONARE's family of ultrasound devices has secured the Food and Drug Administration's 510(K) clearance for clinical use within the United States. The products have the CE mark necessary for use in European countries and various other regional regulatory certificates. ZONARE has successfully installed more than 10,000 ultrasound systems in over 70 countries.
Its innovative technology platform, unique product positioning, and long-term customer engagement will ensure ZONARE's continued leadership in the industry. The company has over 70 worldwide patents, which offer it much-needed protection while expanding into newer application areas and regional markets. In July 2013, ZONARE was acquired by Mindray Medical (Shenzhen, China) and set up as an independently run subsidiary. The acquisition is a testimony to ZONARE's powerful market position and has given the company access to markets in China, Europe and Asia Pacific.
With its strong overall performance, ZONARE is the worthy recipient of the 2014 North American Frost & Sullivan Enabling Technology Leadership Award in ultrasound imaging. Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to a company that has developed a pioneering technology that not only enhances current products, but also enables the development of newer products and applications. The award recognizes the high market acceptance potential of the recipient's technology.
Frost & Sullivan's Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for outstanding achievement in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research.
ZONARE (zonare.com) is solely dedicated to ultrasound excellence through its innovative, award-winning next generation technology which provides the platform for the company's Living Technology designed to meet its customers evolving imaging needs. The patented design and Zone Sonography ™ Technology (ZST) architecture of the z.one ultra, Z.One PRO and ZS3 platforms deliver high-end image quality and clinical versatility. The company recently was given the 2014 North American Ultrasound Enabling Technology Leadership Award by Frost & Sullivan, the third time in ZONARE's history. ZONARE is an independently run, wholly owned subsidiary of Mindray Medical International.
