The contract is planned for a duration of 12 years and covers both the scheduled maintenance measures as well as short notice emergency maintenance works on the steam turbines, generators as well as the turbine control and measurement technology. The complete commissioning of the first block is scheduled for the end of this year. The new plant consists of two blocks and will become one of the largest and most modern hard-coal power plants in Europe.

The contract partners Alstom (alstom.com) and Vattenfall are aiming at optimising processes together in order to benefit from the manufacturer’s fleet expertise and the customer’s operational experience in equal terms. “Vattenfall has ensured an efficient and secure power supply for the city of Hamburg already for 120 years. To meet our customers' requirements as reliable partner also in the future, we are building a power plant in Moorburg with a capacity of 1,600 MW this is almost the complete demand of the Hanseactic city. Our plant will also play an important role for the grid stability in Northern Germany. We are therefore delighted that Alstom will support us with its service measures,” said Dr. Karsten Schneiker, Director of Moorburg power plant. This also involves a permanent on-site presence of Alstom employees in the power plant in order to plan maintenance work such as overhauls in the long term and to adapt any measures to the plant’s requirements as well as to guarantee short response times in the event of failures. In addition, as original equipment manufacturer, Alstom has assured appropriate workshop capacities as part of the service contract.

“A close relationship with our customer is the key success factor to meet our customers’ needs. In this way, we can achieve a high level of return on experience and thus optimise costs at the same time. Thanks to the frame agreement, the maintenance costs for our customers can be planned in advance,” declares Falko Seckendorf, Head of Sales and Project Management, at Alstom in Germany.

Alstom and Vattenfall have concluded a total of 14 frame agreements in over 10 power plants. This successful collaboration demonstrates the efficiency of long-term, partnership-based relationship and process optimisation.
