The event's organizer, Singapore-based Magenta Global, earlier announced that this postponement is in compliance with the Ghanaian Government's proactive steps to contain the spread of the current outbreak of the Ebola virus in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, imposing a three-month ban on all international meetings and events in Ghana.
"In compliance with this new ruling, the 7th WaCA Mining 2014 Summit & Expo will now take place from 9-10 December 2014. This decision was taken in consultation with all stakeholders and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources of Ghana," said Maggie Tan, Magenta Global CEO.
"As a responsible and reputable global event organiser and partner, we remain committed to delivering a first class event. The later date augurs well for all parties, and we have received stronger support and participation." Ms Tan further noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) has advised that no ban on international travel or trade is currently necessary.
