The need for extremely accurate measurements in industrial applications, especially high-end ones, is sustaining the adoption of power analysers in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). The growing importance given to testing imported goods in order to ensure compliance with energy efficiency standards further aids uptake, especially of low-end power analysers such as power meters.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Australia and New Zealand Power Analysers Market, finds that the market earned slightly above $1.0 million in 2012 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 0.8 percent till 2017. The study covers power analysers used in power electronics design, testing and validation applications.
“The drive towards energy conservation and energy efficiency is expected to bolster the ANZ power analyser market,” said Frost & Sullivan Measurement and Instrumentation Industry Analyst Susan Sahayan. “R&D activities pertaining to energy efficiency too require power analysis. A lot of interest is being generated, particularly from areas related to solar inverters, owing to the increased awareness on climate change and greenhouse gas emission.”
Despite these drivers, the market in ANZ will witness slow growth owing to the decline in manufacturing and the move towards service and information-based industries. Businesses consider the running of a manufacturing plant in ANZ tough due to the high cost of labour, the strong Australian currency, and rising material prices.
In addition, rapid technological developments have made it possible for power analysers to last longer, affecting the demand for replacements. In fact, power analyser replacements are driven by new requirements such as better measurement accuracy rather than equipment breakdown. Hence, manufacturers must deliver innovative solutions with novel capabilities to gain revenue from the replacement market.
“The lack of awareness on the benefits of power analysers among distributors is another challenge,” added Sahayan. “As distributors make up the entire supply channel of this market, it is critical that manufacturers provide training on the latest technologies and upgrades to help distributors better serve the customer base in ANZ.”
