• Ericsson’s Key Event Experience services prepared TIM Brazil’s network for World Cup performance;
• Service was executed in four cities hosting the World Cup São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasília and Salvador;
• Initiative included network diagnosis, implementation of products and services, as well as support from Brazilian and foreign experts with experience in major events.
The “Cup of Selfies” generated traffic of 8.6 TB and 800,000 voice calls on TIM Brazil’s network, and a total of 26.7 TB on all Brazilian networks. On TIM Brazil’s network, 60% of the data was carried by 3G, 26% by Wi-Fi, 12% by 4G and 2% by 2G. In the six stadiums where Wi-Fi was available, this technology accounted for 45% of traffic.
Marco Di Costanzo, Mobile Network Director at TIM Brazil, says: “TIM has been continuously investing in infrastructure and solutions for heterogeneous networks and the results are clear for everyone to see. During the World Cup, our network performed consistently well, delivering a quality service for our customers.”
Ericsson’s Key Event Experience service enabled TIM Brazil to monitor and supervise the performance of its network in stadiums in Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Salvador and São Paulo. Throughout the World Cup, technicians were available to take immediate action whenever an issue arose, thereby ensuring excellent network performance and customer satisfaction.
Daniel Caruso, Vice President at Ericsson Latin America, says: “The World Cup created a lot of unforgettable moments for football fans. With this project, our commitment was to maintain a consistent mobile broadband user experience for TIM customers so that they could enjoy sharing these moments using their mobile devices. We are very pleased to be working once again with TIM to enable better services, resources and experience for end users.”
Overall, operators invested BRL 1.3 billion to boost network performance in the cities that hosted the World Cup. More than 15,000 new 3G and 4G antennas were installed in the 12 host cities between 2013 and 2014, including 4,738 antennas in the World Cup stadiums, as well as more than 10,000 kilometers of optical fiber.
As a result of the success achieved during the World Cup, TIM Brazil will again deploy Key Event Experience during the 2016 Summer Olympics.
