What is the Global Compact?
The Global Compact was launched at UN Headquarters in New York on 26 July 2000. The Secretary General invited business leaders to join the international initiative, which aims to rally companies, professional organisations, employees and civil society around a set of universal principles relating to social responsibility and the environment.

Through collective action, the Global Compact seeks to promote responsible corporate citizenship to ensure that the business community plays its role in meeting the challenges of globalisation.

It was officially launched on 27 January 2004 by the UN Secretary General and the President of the French Republic. As of 7 July 2014, over 1000 French companies and professional organisations had signed up to the Global Compact, making France one of the 10 best Global Compact networks in 2014.
