Robbie the Raindropís First Adventure is an educational and entertaining look at the water cycle. Leaving his cloud friends in the sky, Robbie falls to the ground as a snowflake, and so begins his journey which he hopes will take him to the sea. Along the way he makes friends with a snowman and has many watery adventures, always hoping that his journey wonít be cut short by evaporation back to the sky.
About the Author: Rebecca Williams grew up in the south of England and completed her medical studies at Cambridge and Oxford Universities. She now works as a doctor in rural Scotland where the local countryside has inspired her to write her first childrenís story.
Excerpt from the book:
ďHigh up in the sky, in the place where raindrops, snowflakes and hailstones are made, a raindrop called Robbie had just finished school. He was now ready to be called up for duty, to set off on his first visit down to Earth. His mother and father and his older brothers and sisters had told him so many stories of their experiences down below. You see, you never quite knew when you would be called or how long you would be down there. If you landed in a cold, wet place, you could be down there for days, even weeks or months. However, if it was hot where you landed, it wouldnít be long before the drying out process, evaporation, would take you back to this place up above. ĎI suppose this uncertainty makes it excitingí, he thought to himself, as he sat on a rather dark looking cloud. He began to mull over some of the stories he had heard from older, more experienced raindrops and reckoned he was ready for a long adventure. ĎIíll be really annoyed if I land in Africaí, he said out-loud. ĎI want to have lots of stories to tell people when I get back.íĒ
