LIFE Camp, Inc., RISE, Queens Library, St. Mathews Church, St Albans Congregational Church, Ja Rule, Big ‘BJ’ John, Jacque Reid, Ed Lover, Hype Williams, Cheryl Salt James, DMC, Q Tip, Un Rivera, Quency Phillips, South East Queens Neighborhood Network, principal Springfield, Excelsior Prep & John Adams High School, and many more will come together to kick off a literacy campaign for teens & young adults. This one day event will be used as a vehicle to stimulate public attention & assistance to a well needed educational campaign. Our mission will be to recruit volunteers, financial interest and gain awareness in our public opinion campaign.

Celebrities, athletes, community leaders, pastors, business owners, professionals, sons, fathers, and grand fathers, will join forces on this historic day.

If our children cannot read and write they cannot prosper. It is our responsibility to equip our children with the tools they need to survive and be successful in LIFE.

Part of the literacy campaign kick off will beginning at an 8:00AM reading session led by the Men of RISE at Count Basie Junior High School 72Q, 133-25 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., Jamaica, NY 11434.

Beginning at 12:00PM there will be a Press Conference at St. Mathews Church/Hollis Library on corner of 204th & Hollis Ave. The opening of "LIFE Learning Village Literacy/GED Music & Film Vocational Program", which will be housed at St. Mathews Church, St. Albans Congregational Church, South Hollis, South Jamaica and Laurelton branches of Queens Library, Springfield High School and York College.

On this day we will also join Bernard Gassaway’s call in challenging the New York City government and its citizens to create an office that would be solely dedicated to child-related issues. The New York City Office of the Child Advocate would be lead by an independently elected citywide official. The office will fight for improved child-related services, early childcare, children’s rights and education.
