Visitors included: the Chairman of the Board, Gibela• CEO, Managing Director Transport SA, SVP Middle East & Africa, among others.

The contract signed between PRASA and Gibela consists in the supply of 600 X’Ttrapolis Mega trains (3,600 cars) along a period of 10 years, in addition to the constructions of a manufacturing unit in Dunnottar, close to Johannesburg. Lapa unit will manufacture the first 20 trains of the project and, during the visit, the team has been able to see the trains' production line.

“It is the first time that we come to Brazil, and it was a great way to start, we had a very good impression of the unit”, commented Sfiso Buthelezi, Chairman of the Board. Piet Sebola, the Executive for Strategic Asset Development, highlighted that “we hope our employees have the same energy as the Brazilian team. We are excited with this partnership and anxious for the opening of our factory in Dunnottar”.

About the project, Namhla Mxenge, member of the Board responsible for Human Resources, comments that “for South Africans, the project goes beyond the supply of trains, it involves the improvement in quality of life of a people through the development of the country’s infrastructure, combining the creation of jobs, in addition to, of course, offering a dignified and reliable transport service to the point that they know every morning that they will be transported with safety and quality.”

The project will create over 1,500 direct jobs in the local factory and 33,000 indirect jobs along 10 years, reaching a local content level of over 65%. 19,000 people will be trained by Gibela during the project.
