China's ongoing urbanization and infrastructure modernization programs, particularly in the water and wastewater, chemical and oil & gas industries, is fuelling the demand for positive displacement (PD) pumps in the country. While cost-conscious participants are simply replace existing pumps, others are eager to invest in new, advanced PD pumps. PD pump manufacturers are looking to sustain this demand through integrated solutions and technological advancements in PD pump technology.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Chinese Positive Displacement Pumps Market, finds that the market earned revenues of $1.19 billion in 2013 and estimates this to reach $2.01 billion in 2018. The study covers rotary, reciprocating and peristaltic pumps.
"With approximately 30 to 50 large national projects in key end-user industries across China scheduled for approval in the 2011-2015 period, the demand for PD pumps will grow steadily," said Frost & Sullivan Industrial Automation & Process Control Research Analyst Zi Ning Chong. "PD pump manufacturers will find lucrative opportunities in the oil & gas industry as China has now replaced the United States as the largest crude oil importer. Their scope will also expand in the chemicals industry, as players in this sector prefer PD pumps for high-viscosity and high-pressure applications."
However, the increasing competition from centrifugal pumps, which are easier to install, cost-effective and can be used in a wide range of applications, is exerting pressure on PD manufacturers' bottom lines.
"Price is an important differentiating factor, given the current global economic climate," stated Chong. "High-quality post-purchase technical support and value-added services are also crucial for PD pump manufacturers to remain buoyant in the Chinese market."
