The 2007 U.S. Census economic figures will be completed and available for the public to see by the end of the year. Bibiana Aguirre-Bulloch, Co-Founder and Vice President of One World Fine Foods, hopes the 2007 report shows a similar growth rate of women and minority-owned businesses as was revealed in the 2002 report.

According to the 2002 U.S. Census figures there were 6.5 million women-owned businesses, up 20 percent from 1997. As of 2002 85.95 percent of women business owners were White, 8.43 percent African American, 8.33 percent of Hispanic heritage, 5.25 percent Asian, 1.23 percent American Indian and Alaska Native, and 0.18 percent Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islanders.

"I feel very proud to be a woman, from Mexico, and a business owner," said Aguirre-Bulloch. "I look forward to seeing the new Census figures and hope to see the same trends as we did in 2002.
Aguirre-Bulloch, 31, grew up in Mexicali, Mexico. As a woman and a minority, she has had to prove herself in a country that she says still has many stereotypes.

"Some people still think that Mexican women are only capable of taking care of children or cleaning houses, when in fact we can be very successful in business too," said Aguirre-Bulloch. "Many Mexican women in this country are educated and professional just like I am."

Aguirre-Bulloch always wanted to rise above the stereotypes and was raised by her parents (both entrepreneurs) to value education and all it can bring.

"My mom has been my inspiration all of my life, she has always been an independent strong working woman," said Aguirre-Bulloch. "And my father always told me to be my own boss, that was what studies were about - to finish a degree so you can pursue any dream you want."

Aguirre-Bulloch earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Commerce and Customs, and her Masters of Arts degree in International Administration from the Universidad Iberoamericana del Noroeste, Mexico. Before starting One World Fine Foods, she started her own successful import-export business in California and Mexico. From there, she joined an American-based multinational medical products company where she specialized in purchasing and quality control.

Around the time she met her husband and business partner Michael Bulloch, she was ready for yet another entrepreneurial venture that combined her start-up experience with quality and passion and a way to give back to the community. From this desire she began planning an espresso/cafe venture. Eventually she and Bulloch collaborated on ideas and the urban specialty food market, One World Fine Foods, was formed.

Aguirre-Bulloch maintains her original vision of One World Fine Foods, and continues to give back to the community by regularly supporting local charity causes, participating in Fair Trade, and promoting recycling to minimize the impact on the environment.

"I wake up everyday with only one idea. I have to succeed because it is not only my name, not only my family's name, not only my husband's name, but I am a business owner and I have to succeed in the name of all women and all the Mexicans that come to this country looking for a better life," said Aguirre-Bulloch.
