SCHOTT has redefined the home barbecue yet again by unveiling two new concept grills today at the Hearth, Patio, and Barbecue Association (HPBA) Expo 2014. Between these new barbecue designs and SCHOTT’s specialty glasses for fireplaces and stoves, also on display this week, high-tech glass is taking center stage.

SCHOTT improved upon the ultimate concept grill it revealed at HPBA 2013 by expanding the size of the curved glass-ceramic window on the grill hood. Now 23 percent larger, the window offers backyard barbecuers an unprecedented view of their entire grilling surface, allowing them to keep an eye on every steak, burger, and hot dog as they cook without having to open the hood and crash internal temperatures.

The window, made of heat-resistant SCHOTT NEXTREMA® glass-ceramic, withstands even the intense 700-degree Fahrenheit heat of infrared grills. And by installing NEXTREMA, which efficiently emits infrared waves, over rotisserie burners, cooks can easily transform their barbecues into increasingly popular, highly efficient rotisseries to achieve perfect doneness.

SCHOTT also developed a second, bowl-shaped concept grill. This barbecue features a NEXTREMA glass-ceramic domed lid that offers a 360-degree view of the grilling surface. The grill also includes a round, grooved side burner ideal for cooking or heating hamburger buns and keeping a side dish warm. This new concept grill highlights the extreme range of design possibilities when using NEXTREMA in barbecue design. In fact, NEXTREMA can adapt to any grill on the market. Beyond curved and domed shapes, SCHOTT is expanding transparent barbecue lid design by introducing a line of glass-ceramic tops in a variety of shapes and sizes, including boxy and flat panes of glass that are capable of fitting any grill hood. Three transparent lid possibilities will be on display at the HPBA booth.

To accompany its ultimate concept grills and glass hoods, SCHOTT will also display potential NEXTREMA after-market accessory ideas, such as pizza stones, vegetable or seafood plates, bun warmers, and more, that enable the home barbecuer to customize the grill to meet their needs. NEXTREMA’s robust properties improve the longevity and performance of each accessory, making them ideal for a variety of cuisines and cooking methods.

“When we revealed our ultimate concept grill at HPBA last year, it fueled the imaginations of grill manufacturers and home barbecuers alike,” said Karen Elder, Marketing Manager at SCHOTT North America. “This year we’ve pushed the concept further, creating high-quality, never-before-seen grill designs that would allow backyard chefs to more easily keep an eye on their food while ensuring optimal temperatures and faster cooking times. And by demonstrating NEXTREMA’s flexibility to fit grill hoods of all shapes and sizes, we aim to make this concept barbecue a reality in the near future.”

In addition to the concept grills, SCHOTT will exhibit its anti-reflective ROBAX® TrueView glass-ceramic for gas fireplaces at HPBA 2014. New safety regulations put in place as of Jan. 1, 2014 require manufacturers to install safety screens in new glass-front gas fireplaces. Safety screens increase safety but can block homeowners’ view of their fire. SCHOTT responded to these regulations by developing ROBAX TrueView which sits behind the screen as an invisible fire barrier to ensure minimally obstructed fire viewing.

SCHOTT will also display ROBAX® Magic, a black glass-ceramic for use inside gas fireplaces that creates stunning flame reflections and adds a contemporary design element to traditional gas fireplaces.

To view these fireplace and barbecue innovations first hand, stop by SCHOTT’s booth (#3817) at the HPBA Expo 2014 from March 6 to 8, 2014 in Salt Lake City.
