CogSIMA brings together researchers to discuss approaches to situation awareness and decision support systems. Attendees come from academia, industry, and the military with backgrounds in computer science, human factors, cognitive science, and experimental science. Charles River is a silver patron of CogSIMA 2014, which will take place from March 3-6, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas.
The keynote speakers of this year’s conference include:
• Dr. Mica Endsley, Chief Scientist, US Air Force - "Integrating Humans and Autonomous Systems: Achieving Smooth, Simple, & Seamless"
• Dr. Peter Hancock, University Pegasus Professor and Provost, University of Central Florida - "The Antecedents of Situation Awareness and its Future"
• Dr. Leo Motus, Professor, Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia - "Some Situation Awareness Issues in Complex Cognitive Systems, their Sources and Potential Antidote"
Michael Jenkins, a scientist at Charles River, will give a presentation at CogSIMA. “I’ll discuss the results of an empirical investigation into human observers’ ability to visual estimate attributes of other individuals, such as age, weight, and height, and the impact of context on their ability to accurately do so in real-world settings,” Dr. Jenkins explained. “These results feed into a larger ongoing effort to integrate humans as observers, i.e., soft data sources, in data fusion systems along with machine-sensed data, i.e., hard data sources.”
