Newly launched DawsonTimes.com, an online local newspaper serving Dawson County, GA, comes boldly out of the gate with support from its parent company, Hometown Times, Inc., based in Cumming, GA, along with the Dawsonville community and eleven sister sites across the metro-Atlanta area and neighboring states. DawsonTimes.com co-publishers, Cathy Brooks and Vivian Heard, both of neighboring Cumming, GA, are excited to be a part of the Dawson County community. “We are humbled by the warm reception we’ve already received from the Dawsonville community and will strive to become the area’s number-one online information source, providing news, events and other community happenings that our readers want and need to be apprised of,” explained Vivian Heard, co-publisher. Business partner Cathy Brooks continued, “Our strength lies in our commitment to the people of the Dawson community. As their needs and interests change, so will ours. Clearly, our readers and advertisers will determine the path of DawsonTimes.com.”

Forsyth County-based HometownTimes, Inc. debuted in July 2003, with the launch of CummingHome.com, the brainchild of Cumming resident, Steve Carter. Jim Harrell, HometownTimes’ general manager, joined Carter shortly thereafter. After just three years, the company continues to expand exponentially. Currently, 12 online newspapers are in operation, 10 of which serve north Atlanta and surrounding areas. The family of Hometown Times, Inc. sites includes: CummingHome.com, DawsonTimes.com, HometownCherokee.com, NorthFultonTimes.com, HometownGwinnett.com, HometownHall.com, HometownDeKalb.com, HometownCobb.com, GreaterRomeTimes.com, HometownPickens.com, CaryHomeTimes.com, LakeFrontHartwell.com.

“HometownTimes, Inc. expects to launch 15 additional sites in the metro Atlanta area the first quarter of 2007, and plans are already underway to take the operation national over the course of the year,” explained founder, Steve Carter. “We’ve got such a tremendous staff, all of whom are dedicated and committed to doing what it takes to take HometownTimes to the next level. It’s been personally rewarding to see where we’ve come in such a short time. Our initial two-person operation has quickly expanded to a team of more than 20,” he continued.

DawsonTimes.com brings local news to readers’ fingertips, literally, with the click of a mouse, and while the medium is technically deemed an online newspaper, it’s much more. Like the broadcast media, DawsonTimes can issue breaking news, such as severe weather or major traffic accidents. It also exudes the flavor of a magazine, with the crisp look and vividly-colored images that quality magazines possess. “Technologically, we have the ability to run news items, breaking news stories, feature articles, streaming video and podcasts. We will continue to stay on technology’s cutting edge to bring information to the community in a variety of user-friendly ways,” offered Brooks.

“The beauty of our medium is that we’re available 24/7, we have no deadlines to meet, no printing costs, no word limits on articles, and we can use an almost limitless number of colored images with our articles to help clearly illustrate a story or news item,” commented Heard. “And our advertisers love the fact that potential customers can link directly to their websites from ours,” she added. And yet another advertiser perk – because DawsonTimes.com incurs no printing costs, those savings can be passed along to the advertiser. “When you compare our rates to other local media, we are the most economical, hands down,” commented Brooks. Both Brooks and Heard look forward to serving the community with interesting, current and unbiased news that reflects the heart and soul of Dawsonville and Dawson County.
