As the pace of business accelerates, organizations are constantly searching for ways to gain data-driven insights to increase business agility and performance. Yet most business users are forced to choose between enterprise-class business intelligence, which is fast, secure and powerful, but requires close collaboration with IT, and unsecured, self-service desktop discovery tools, which open the business up to security and governance risks. The latest release of Oracle Endeca Information Discovery 3.1 incorporates new enterprise self-service discovery capabilities for business users, allowing them to easily make information-based business decisions with greater success, safety and confidence.

To bring the power of deep, data-driven insights to business users, Oracle today announced the release of Oracle Endeca Information Discovery 3.1.

The latest version of Oracle’s enterprise class data discovery platform offers business users additional self-service data mashup and discovery capabilities, extended support for unstructured analytics, and an even tighter integration with industry-leading Oracle Business Intelligence software.

Oracle Endeca Information Discovery 3.1 (OEID 3.1) is designed with new capabilities empowering business users to use analytics easily to incorporate the wide variety of information they have access to in decision making. Since Oracle Endeca allows business users to leverage the investments IT has made in enterprise data management, governance, and business intelligence, these decisions can be made with greater confidence, success, and safety. The new functionality includes:

• Self-Service Data Mashup and Discovery Dashboards: With Self- Service Data Mashup, business users can combine information from multiple sources and conduct analysis on the complete set. OEID 3.1 expands data sources available for business user data mashup beyond Excel, adding a strong integration with Oracle BI, connectivity to a wide range of databases, as well as semi-structured data in JSON format. The process of creating discovery dashboards has been made even easier by further investments in intuitive drag-and drop layout and wizard-based configuration. Business users can now build new discovery applications in minutes without depending on IT organizations. As discoveries are surfaced and new needs are identified, additional data is simple to add, allowing rapid prototyping and iteration so that the context behind the discoveries can be understood without having to create the perfect model.

• Deep Unstructured Analysis: Business users can gain new perspectives and insights from the wide variety of conversations, dialogues, and opinions that exist in both enterprise and public sources, helping companies to build an actionable Big Data strategy. With continuous improvement on Oracle Endeca’s longstanding differentiation in processing and analyzing unstructured information and correlating it with structured data, business users can now perform their own textual mining to identify hidden concepts from unstructured sources without support from IT. They can augment these insights with best in class keyword search and pattern matching, all in the context of rich, interactive visualizations and analytic summaries.

• Enhanced Integration with Oracle BI: Capitalizing on a common development foundation and vision, Oracle Endeca Information Discovery 3.1 enhances its native integration with best in class Oracle Business Intelligence Foundation. Business Users can now bring information from trusted BI warehouses, leveraging dimensions and attributes defined in Oracle’s Common Enterprise Information Model, but evolve them based on the varying day-to-day demands and requirements that they must personally manage.

• Enterprise-Class Self-Service Discovery: Whereas most data discovery products have their roots as desktop tools, Oracle Endeca’s discovery technology started as enterprise infrastructure used by IT organizations to drive mission critical applications over significant user and data volumes with air-tight security and fast, scalable performance. IT organizations can now provide a self-service discovery platform to the business as part of a broader Business Analytics strategy that preserves the value of existing investments in data quality, governance, and security. Business users can take advantage of IT data centers to drive discovery to even higher volumes and varieties of data, immediately sharing their insights with colleagues at a moment’s notice.

Oracle now also provides best-of-breed data access to website content through the Oracle Endeca Web Acquisition Toolkit. In order to harvest content from the Web, this new offering provides an agile, graphical interface for developers rapidly to access and integrate any information exposed through a web front-end. Organizations can now cost-effectively include content from consumer sites, industry forums, government or supplier portals, cloud applications, and a myriad other web sources as part of their overall strategy for data discovery and unstructured analytics.

Supporting Quotes
“For business users, data-driven insights are the holy grail of competitive intelligence difficult or impossible to glean without significant effort, and are often gained through unsecured, vigilante channels,” said Keith Johnson, group vice president of software development, Oracle. “The latest release of Oracle Endeca solves this challenge, allowing business users to securely benefit from simple and powerful data discovery at the speed of business, enabling them to make data-driven decisions with absolute confidence.”

“With the release of Oracle Endeca Information discovery 3.1, Oracle provides the benefits of self service information discovery with the requisite governance, standards and security of an enterprise-class environment,” said Wayne Eckerson, president, BI Leader Consulting and industry analyst, TechTarget.

“Data Discovery has been a sea change in the analytics market, driven by a desire to make information more accessible to a broader range of users at all levels of the business. With Oracle’s release of Oracle Endeca Information Discovery 3.1, we anticipate an even more improved ability to spur adoption and improved time to value with enterprise-class self-service discovery,” said Mark Rittman, chief technical officer, Rittman Mead.
