MSTAR, Utah’s largest and fastest-growing fiber-optic service provider, hired a new director of video services, adding Paul Venturella to its growing professional staff.
“Paul may be the only person on the planet who has both cable and IP television experience – a critical component for our future,” said Ben Gould, president and chief executive officer of MSTAR. “This, combined with the fact that he oversaw the construction and operations of iProvo, really makes him a unique, highly sought-after asset in the fiber-to-the-home market.”
Venturella served as Provo City’s telecommunications manager for the past five years – hired specifically to manage the iProvo fiber project – and is a veteran of the cable industry. He has experience in all aspects of cable and video service delivery, including marketing, technology, customer service and IP video.
“I started in the cable business in 1976 when we still used rabbit ears and there were only two cable channels,” Venturella said. “At that time, cable was used to deliver broadcast signals to those who did not have good antenna reception.”
Now Venturella manages MSTAR’s more than 200 channels and said he is looking forward to overseeing more growth and development.
“I am very excited to move from Provo City to the larger opportunity MSTAR offers as a service provider on both the iProvo and UTOPIA networks,” Venturella said. “I find it to be a breath of fresh air since both MSTAR and UTOPIA are very forward-looking.”
Venturella’s experience with fiber optics includes his time as the director of engineering for all Tele-Communications Inc., cable systems in California; he was involved in one of their earliest uses of fiber-optic cables in their network.
He also served as the director of customer satisfaction for TCI and AT&T Broadband in the Chicago area and as the general manager for cable systems in Utah, New York, Illinois and Wyoming. Venturella has been recognized several times for his work in the video industry; his system earned an award for Outstanding Customer Service as well as Highest Employee Satisfaction. He has spoken at numerous conferences on technical, operations and customer service issues.
Venturella and his wife Louise have two children. Venturella said they have lived in Utah for more than 10 years and they love it.
