A recent independently-certified performance test on Oracle’s Acme Packet Net-Net 6300 confirmed that the high-end session border controller (SBC) platform meets or exceeds performance and capacity requirements for deployment in emerging services such as Voice over Long-term Evolution (VoLTE), Rich Communication Services (RCS), video calling and other IP-based communications services. The Net-Net 6300 was tested for session establishment rates, session capacity and registration capacity using a mix of signaling traffic that would typically be found in tier one communications service provider (CSP) networks.
Oracle today released the results of a performance test demonstrating that Oracle’s Acme Packet Net-Net 6300 platform can meet session establishment, session capacity and registration capacity performance targets for a tier one CSP traffic mix, including access and peering network communication modes. The platform supports access to end-user devices and traffic exchange between separate networks.
Introduced in late 2012, Net-Net 6300 enables large CSPs to scale their service delivery infrastructure to address the increasing complexity and volume of session traffic signaling and media that characterizes real-time communications as it continues to transition from circuit-switched to all-IP networks.
The performance test results show that Net-Net 6300 can deliver groundbreaking performance and capacity up to ten times that of the leading Oracle’s Acme Packet Net-Net 4500. The platform leverages Oracle’s field-proven SBC software to help service providers maximize revenues and minimize capital and operating expenditures.
The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Real-Time Communications (RTC) Lab conducted the test with the results validated by Current Analysis. The test specifications were drawn from the Internet Engineering Task Force’s “Methodology for Benchmarking SIP Network Devices,” and used a tier one service provider’s SBC configuration requirements. Oracle selected a vendor-independent methodology to enhance performance comparison objectivity and give network operators a higher degree of confidence in product performance.
The test results show that Net-Net 6300 combines exceptional performance, capacity and system throughput with proven and comprehensive session delivery functions and features. The performance test, which included CSP required features such as high availability, topology-hiding and generation of accounting records, successfully achieved:
• A session establishment rate of 1,000 sessions per second with media and 2,400 sessions per second without media, consistently handling high call traffic volumes over an extended period;
• A concurrent session capacity of 80,000 with media and 192,000 without media, achieved while maintaining high service quality even during peak use (1);
• A registration rate of 7,800 registrations per second leading to a potential registration capacity of 1,900, 000 endpoints.(2) This demonstrates that Net-Net 6300 can support a high number of simultaneous end users during periods of high registration, such as after a power outage.

The performance numbers are capped by the maximum number of sessions allowed under current licensing, which is 80,000.
Capacity was restricted only by the limitations of the registrar capacity
