Huntsville, AL, United States, 2013/08/09 - The Special Olympics Track & Field Events will enter its 46th year with more than 400 special athletes competing at Milton Frank Stadium on October 22 (rain date October 24). Opening Ceremonies begin at 9:30am with games concluding at 1:30pm - AEgisTG.com.
Athletes ranging from 8 to 65-years-old from Madison City Schools, Madison County Schools, Huntsville City Schools and the Opportunity Center will participate in the following events: running and standing long jump, softball throw, 20 meter walk, 100 meter dash, 50 meter dash, 200 meter run, shotput, 50 meter assisted walk and wheelchair-pushed. Each athlete will receive a ribbon during the awards ceremony.
AEgis Technologies is sponsoring and coordinating the event with help from various school systems and the Opportunity Center. More than 1,000 volunteers will be on hand to assist each athlete, work the track and field events and prepare and serve food. Co-sponsored by the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., Foundation, Special Olympics is an athletic and recreational program for people with physical and mental disabilities.
