• Ericom AccessNow ensures that staff can access applications on any device.
• Bomgar’s secure remote support solution allows the Informatics Merseyside support team to ensure that all devices are in working order and that clinical staff remain productive.
Ericom and Bomgar solutions are being used to support clinical staff in accessing applications on mobile devices and tablets, rather than requiring them to work at a desk.
As part of its approach, the Informatics Merseyside support team is now providing remote access and support for clinical staff as part of a wider mobile working Programme called I’M Mobile. Following the installation, Partner Organisation staff will be given the ability to work in a more agile way via a mix of Samsung tablets, iPads, laptops and traditional desktop PCs as their workloads require. Users have also been able to use their own iPads without storing sensitive clinical information on them as part of a BYOD trial.
Steven Parker, technical innovation lead at Informatics Merseyside commented,“As part of our remit, Informatics Merseyside provides support and technologies that make NHS staff at all levels more productive. In this instance, Ericom AccessNow makes it easier for staff to securely access clinical applications via tablets and laptops, while the Bomgar appliance allows us to provide support and service to those users wherever they happen to be. This combination of technologies helps staff work in more agile and user-centric ways and makes them more productive as they can concentrate on delivering quality patient care.”
Stuart Facey, vice president EMEA at Bomgar, said “Initiatives around BYOD depend on users being able to work wherever and whenever suits them. If they encounter problems, then proactive remote support will be a critical requirement in order to solve those issues and keep staff productive. This project is part of Informatics Merseyside’s overall approach to ensuring quality service for clinical and non-clinical staff across the whole range of NHS organisations that they support.”
“Working remotely requires access to applications that may not be able to reside on a user’s device for reasons of security and compliance,” said Brian Berns, president and COO of Ericom Software. “By delivering these applications in a secure browser session that meets HTML5 standards, users get the same experience as they have in an office environment on any device and without requiring data to be stored locally. In the NHS, this approach is critical to enabling smarter working strategies and allowing users to work from their own devices.”
Informatics Merseyside provides information management and technology services to the Merseyside NHS Health Economy, covering approximately 28,000 users across a range of healthcare provider organisations from NHS Trusts and Clinical Commissioning Groups, to specialist, mental health and audit bodies.
