BRP also received anaward in April 2013 for the most advanced powertrain concept in the light sport aircraft industry for its Rotax 912 iS aircraft engine from the German aviation magazine fliegermagazin.

Since 1960, the Dr. August Raspet Memorial Award has been presented every year to a person or organisation who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of light aircraft design. The award is named for the late Dr. August Raspet, a professor at Mississippi State University and avid light aircraft enthusiast.

“It is an honour for BRP to be awarded with the Dr. August Raspet Memorial Award,” stated Francois Tremblay, marketing director, Rotax aircraft engines. “BRP’s history of innovation and excellence, as demonstrated by such products as the Rotax 912 iS aircraft engine, is a good fit with Dr. Raspet’s passion for the latest and greatest technology in light aircraft.”

The Rotax 912 iS engine is the most fuel efficientaircraft engine in the light sport, ultra-light aircraft and the general aviation industry. Real-life flight tests are showing a fuel economy improvement of up to 36% (vs. the Rotax 912 ULS engine) The digital engine control system (ECU) and the redundant electronic fuel injection system ensure optimal fuel and air mixture at any altitude for a longer flight range, fewer CO2 emissions and lower operating costs. The Rotax 912 iS engine is currently available on 26 different aircraft types.

With more than 170,000 Rotax aircraft engines sold in almost 40 years, Rotax aircraft engines dominate the light sport and ultra-light aircraft market. Out of these 170,000 units more than 46,000 are 4-stroke engines of the popular Rotax 912 / 914 engines family. With 19 authorized distributors and a network of more than 200 sales and repair centres supporting customers worldwide, BRP supplies engines to more than 80% of all aircraft manufacturers in its segment.
