Rosenzweig who’s been called: “The Man Behind the Women’s Movement,” used this pioneering TV show about two female New York City police detectives to explore a range of women’s issues, from breast cancer, to date rape and spousal abuse that had never appeared on TV before. Rosenzweig had to fight to get the show on the air because its topics were deemed too controversial, and he had to fight equally hard to keep the show from being canceled, devising an ingenious viewer letter-writing campaign launched by Ms. Magazine – which is all meticulously detailed in his insider’s account of the show. Cagney, Lacey, and Me (cagneyandlacey.com) is being released around Mother’s Day, May 13, 2007, to coincide with the release of the series DVD for the 25th anniversary of the show.
