The project site is located just southeast of the town of Goldthwaite, Texas, approximately 100 miles north of Austin. The project is being constructed by Blattner Energy, Inc., with substation and transmission line work being performed by EPC Services Company. Goldthwaite Wind will consist primarily of 83 GE 1.7 MW wind turbines; it also will incorporate three GE 2.5 MW brilliant turbines, which feature shortterm battery storage.
“We’re excited about our expanding our wind energy footprint to the ERCOT-North region and further contributing to the Texas economy with the construction of Goldthwaite Wind. We’d also like to thank our project landowners, Mills County officials, and the Goldthwaite Independent School District for their strong support throughout project development,” said Jim Murphy, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Invenergy.
Upon completion later this year, the 148.6 MW Goldthwaite Wind project will generate enough clean, renewable energy to power more than 68,000 homes. The electricity produced by the facility will be sold into the wholesale markets managed by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (“ERCOT”).
Invenergy owns and operates five other wind energy generation projects in Texas. Once Goldthwaite Wind commences full commercial operations, the company’s statewide wind portfolio will have a total capacity of more than 830 MW.
Invenergy and its affiliated companies develop, own and operate large-scale renewable and other clean energy generation facilities in North America and Europe. North America’s largest independent wind power generation company, Invenergy is committed to clean power alternatives and continued innovation in electricity generation.
