The International Homicide Investigators Association (IHIA) and LexisNexis® Risk Solutions today announced the winner of the annual IHIA Award for Excellence, which recognizes individuals or organizations who have distinguished themselves amongst their peers by contributing to investigative professionalism through outstanding accomplishment.
Presented during the IHIA Annual Symposium, which took place June 9-14, 2013, in Orlando, Florida, this year’s award went to the Colorado Information Analysis Center (CIAC). CIAC was honored for its ability to rapidly obtain, analyze and share valuable information with key stakeholders within multiple agencies involved in solving and preventing crime.
"I am pleased to present this award each year during our conference that recognizes law enforcement personnel for their extraordinary service," said Bill Hagmaier, IHIA Executive Director. "We congratulate the Colorado Information Analysis Center for their expedient and efficient approach to sharing key information necessary to apprehend violent criminals and terrorists, and solve investigations. A prime example was their outstanding contributions in identifying and eventually helping to stop a plot to bomb the Manhattan subway system in New York City in 2009, the only known al Qaeda directed plot on U.S. soil since 9/11."
"LexisNexis is proud to sponsor the IHIA annual awards program," said Haywood J. Talcove, chief executive officer, Government, LexisNexis Risk Solutions. "Leveraging technology to enable greater intelligence is a major component of any effective law enforcement agency. IHIA provides leadership and promotes professionalism in the law enforcement community in order to protect public safety."
