Monday, Monday…day traders and investors were glad to hear the closing bell. Tight trading ranges and light volume made for a typical, struggle for a Monday. At the close, red was the dominating color across the board with the Bears in full control of the trading session: the DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) fell sharply to lose 88.37 points to end the session at 12477.16; the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) moved higher 5.54 points to end at 9130.92; the NASDAQ moved lower by 20.24 points to close at 2431.07; the S&P 500 shed 7.55 points to end at 1422.95 and the RUSSELL 2000 fell by 7.20 points to close at 777.96. The FTSE All-World Index ex-US (top Large/Mid Cap aggregate from over 2,700 stocks from the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (GEIS) which covers 90% of the worlds investable market capitalization) moved lower by 0.94 to close at 239.71 and the FTSE RAFI 1000 moved lower by 22.48 points to close at 5948.58.
Chicago Fed National Activity Index rose by 0.04 in December compared to a drop of 0.30 in November and Chicago Fed Index for three months average fell by 0.19 in December compared to a drop by 0.36 in November.

On the commodities markets, the trend was mostly lower across the board today: Light crude moved lower by $0.86 to close at $51.13 a barrel; Heating Oil closed lower by $0.01 at $1.52 a gallon; Natural Gas moved higher by $0.39 to end the day at $7.31 per million BTU and Unleaded Gas closed lower by $0.02 at $1.38 a gallon.
Metals ended the session mixed across the board today: Gold moved lower by $2.30 to close at $634.10 an ounce; Silver closed higher by $0.08 at $13.00 an ounce; Platinum shed $3.40 to close at $1,165.10 an ounce and Copper ended the day higher by $0.01 to close at $2.53 per pound.
On the Livestock and Meat markets, the trend was red across the board today: Lean Hogs closed lower by 1.05 to close at 64.55; Pork Bellies closed the day lower by 0.33 at 95.88; Live Cattle closed lower by 0.38 to end the day at 92.70 and Feeder Cattle ended the day lower by 1.20 to close at 92.38.
Other Commodities: Corn moved lower today by 2.50 to close at 404.25 and Soybeans moved lower by 0.50 to close at 717.25.
Bonds were higher across the board today: 2 year bond closed higher by 1/32 at 99 22/32; 5 year bond closed higher by 2/32 at 99 12/32; 10 year bond closed higher by 4/32 today to end at 98 30/32 and the 30 year bond closed higher by 9/32 at 94 19/32.
The end of day results for the CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) which is comprised of the total Exchange Volume for Futures and Options (EVFO) including Electronic, Open Auction and Cash Exchange ended the day at 2,737,876. Open Interest for Futures rose by 21,699 to close at 9,021,479 and the Open Interest for Options moved higher by 26,757 to close at 7,704,975 for a total Open Interest of 16,727,616 for a total gain on the day by 49,040.
The mini Dow ended the session with a hefty loss of 72 to close at 12538. The total Dow Exchange Volume for the day came in at 101,599 which are comprised of Electronic, Open Auction and Cash Exchange. New York Stock Exchange movers for the day: Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings (CME) fell sharply by 7.33 points to close at $570.00 for the day; AMREP Corporation (AXR) plummeted by 29.21 points for a loss on the day of 21.42% to close at $107.14; Vimpel-Communications (VIP) tacked on a gain of 3.38 points to end at $82.08; Potash Corporation/Saskatchewan (USA) (POT) gave up 5.28 points to close at $138.32 and Under Armour Incorporated (UA) fell 7.81% for a loss on the day of 3.99 points to close at $47.08.
On the NASDAQ today, advancers came in at 1,061; decliners totaled 1,999; unchanged came in at 135; new highs came in at 69 and new lows came in at 44. Gainers and losers for the day on the NASDAQ: E-Futures Technology Incorporated (EFUT) moved nicely higher by 3.29 points to end the session at $34.70; Central Garden & Pet Company (CENT) plummeted by 6.28 points to end at $42.51; Intuitive Surgical Incorporated (ISRG) moved higher by 3.67 points to close at $97.08 for the day and Google Incorporated (GOOG) fell sharply by 8.82 points to close at $480.93.
