Oracle Japan will focus on IT system initiative for electric industry in Japan.

The Electricity System Reform, pursued by the Japanese Government, aims to achieve three purposes: [i] securing the stable supply of electricity, [ii] suppressing electricity rates to the maximum extent possible and [iii] providing consumers with choices as well as business operators with opportunities to expand their businesses. To achieve these goals, a dramatic reform will be steadily carried out according to a realistic schedule, focusing on the following three pillars:
• Expanding operations of wide-area electrical grids;
• Fully liberalizing the electricity retail market into which retail entities are able to enter; and
• Further securing neutrality of the power transmission/distribution sector through the legal structural separation and fully liberalizing electricity rates*.

With this, Oracle Japan will focus on two pillars: liberalization of the electricity retail market and the separation of electricity generation and transmission/distribution.

Oracle Japan’s initiatives can enhance propositions to electric companies, new power producer and suppliers (PPS), public agencies and local governments in Japan by taking advantage of its expertise and best practices of electric utilities deregulation and separation of electricity generation and transmission/distribution in overseas markets, including North America, Europe, and Asia.

Also, Oracle Japan has organized a new team to focus on this business in utilities in Japan. The team will deliver integrated solutions that combine Oracle Applications, including Oracle Utilities, the Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Hyperion, and Oracle Engineered Systems, including Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud. Oracle’s integrated solutions enable billing and customer management, meter data management, blackout/distribution management, microgrid, material procurement management, maintenance of power generation/transmission facilities, and the creation of facility plans.

Supporting Quote
“Oracle Utilities offers solutions that connect smart metering to customers, business, and operational processes across the electricity utility value chain,” said Rodger Smith, group vice president and general manager, Oracle Utilities. “Oracle Utilities is excited to see how the recent electric reformation initiatives in Japan will affect Japanese utilities for the better, enabling utilities to efficiently manage electricity supply and expand their businesses now and in the future.”
