Businesses, local authorities, the voluntary sector and a host of interested organisations will be taking part in a series of events hosted by Advantage West Midlands and the Regional Assembly.

The events form part of the consultation for the West Midlands Economic Strategy, the plan that maps out the region’s development in terms of jobs, transport, skills and other key issues which will be published in the autumn.

The Strategy is reviewed every three years to ensure it reflects the changes that affect the region over time, remains relevant and provides the right solutions.

On Tuesday January 23, the first of six events takes place at Port Vale Football Club when key stakeholders and the public in North Staffordshire have their say on what they consider to be the region’s priorities.
Nick Paul, Advantage West Midlands Chairman, said: “I think everybody can agree that the West Midlands aspires to be a world-class region.
“In order to reach this goal, we need a strategy that is developed, owned and delivered by the region working together as a team.
“Our region has a £10 billion gap in our overall economic performance compared to the national average and closing this gap could be worth £2,000 to every single person living in the West Midlands.
“This is the biggest consultation we have ever embarked upon and we want to hear as many voices as we can in order to shape the future of our region.
“It is at these meetings that we will shape the strategy and the work that organisations such as Advantage West Midlands and the Regional Assembly does in the years ahead to generate £10 billion more for our region.”

The consultation events are: Port Vale Football Club, Stoke, North Staffordshire (Tuesday January 23); Ironbridge Gorge Museum, near Telford (Tuesday February 6); West Bromwich Albion Football Club (Thursday February 8); Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, near Warwick (Monday February 19); Hereford Racecourse (Tuesday February 20); University of Birmingham (Thursday February 22).

Each events run between 4pm and 7.30pm, places are limited so attendees must register in advance.
