Perth, Western Australia, Australia, 2007/01/09 - Optimiser, creator of a unique, patented Web service for managing and billing digital product and content sales and purchases in realtime. New CEO to globalise Digital Management services pioneer.
Optimiser - Perth-based developer of patented Digital Management solutions for controlling digital product and content services - has appointed Alan Erasmus as its new Chief Executive Officer and Director. Erasmus will oversee completion of Optimiser's commercialisation projects, pursue the company's strategic funding objectives and set its course for entering the international markets of Asia, Europe and the US.
Erasmus is an accomplished business leader with a strong ICT management background, having been Executive Director and Country Manager for international solutions provider EDS, where he developed and grew a multimillion dollar outsourcing business from scratch. Previously with GlaxoWellcome, he has been heavily involved in the development and implementation of major Enterprise Resource Planning solutions, and has strong experience in leading corporate change.
"Optimiser, with its patented Digital Management technology, has a huge opportunity to make a difference to the way digital product and content services are managed and billed over the Internet," said Erasmus. "Our commercialisation initiatives are gathering pace; we have attracted institutional investment from Perth's International Finance Corporation of Australasia; and have identified a number of strong international companies with which we can forge strategic commercial and technical alliances.
"With software and content vendors facing piracy and revenue leakage problems, and the digital media markets set to explode, the company is well positioned to serve the new consumer-pull markets the Internet has fostered. I am excited to be taking up the challenge of leading this pioneering enterprise into the international, yet still emergent, Digital Asset Rights Management markets. Optimiser's long-term business prospects are more than excellent."
The most stark illustration of the company's potential is the piracy rates seen in the digital product and services markets today. A report issued by the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA), in February 2006, stated that content publishers and independent software vendors are facing chronic revenue leakage, with annual global software piracy valued at US$10bn and content at US$5bn.
Further, according to Frost & Sullivan's World Digital Rights Management Markets report, released in May 2006: "The advent of the Internet has enabled the flow of information, giving rise to loss of data, not only due to human error, but the ease of accessibility to the repository of information available out there. As the DRM industry is beginning to gain momentum, vendors with solutions for the enterprise or entertainment market are poised to gain significantly".
Optimiser's services and technology are unique. Optimiser's groundbreaking solution is a Web-based Digital Management (DM) service for the controlled distribution, in-the-field management and unique point-of-use billing of software and content. Unlike conventional License and Subscription Management solutions, Optimiser provides near real-time data to both vendor and user, for activity-based accounting of both sales and purchase investments, respectively.
"We are very pleased to have Alan Erasmus accept this position," said Leo Mullins, founder of Optimiser and inventor of its Digital Management approach. "Optimiser is at a crucial stage in its development, so it needs to bring in new high-calibre talent to help ensure it realises its international ambitions. Alan is more than qualified for the job."
In addition to Erasmus' direct commercial experience, he has served on the Executive Council of a National Computer Society, consulted to numerous not-for-profit organisations and gained an MBA. He also chaired an independent group advising government on the allocation and harmonisation of communication frequency spectra for the introduction of nationwide microwave, WAN and cellular communications infrastructure. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Optimiser (optimiser.com), founded in 1996, is the creator of a unique, patented Web service for managing and billing digital product and content sales and purchases in real-time. The service provides metadata for accounting, to both vendors and buyers of digital assets so they can manage their sales and purchase investments. It uniquely combines Digital Rights Management (DRM), Digital Asset Management (DAM), Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) and Business Intelligence reporting for the modern digital business.
Assessed by BT Exact as having a "unique and original" approach, Optimiser is a 2006 Innovation Finalist in the Secrets of Australian ICT Innovation Competition; an Innovation Finalist in the Western Australia Information Technology & Telecommunications Awards (WAITTA); a Top 25 Finalist in Austrade's 2001 Silicon Valley High-Tech Tour; a four-time showcase presenter at the ANZA Technology Showcase Conference in Palo Alto; and a Malaysian Multimedia Super Corridor MSC-status company.
