According to the agreement, Safran and UPMC will:

• Facilitate exchanges between Safran employees and UPMC students and recent graduates, through initiatives including workshops, special events, career development support for students, etc.
• Facilitate Safran’s contribution to teaching by providing course content reflecting the Group’s areas of expertise.
• Detect and recognize young talents who are excited by Safran’s businesses and technologies, possibly leading to an internship (during or between studies), doctoral degree, Volunteer for International Experience (VIE) program or employment.
• Promote career opportunities and jobs at Safran for UPMC students, and facilitate their professional integration.

The partnership agreement will result in an annual action plan for students taking engineering, information technology and mathematics courses, as well as the engineering master’s program. It could be extended to cover other courses at UPMC, depending on how the partners’ respective needs develop.

"Safran is once again recruiting nearly 3,000 people in France this year, including 75% engineers and management staff," noted Jean-Luc-Bérard. "To support our development, we have to hire the best people available, and this partnership will give us direct access to the talent pool at UPMC. It will also enable us to increase hiring of university students, thereby further diversifying our own workforce, which helps drive innovation. Safran is firmly convinced that teaming up with academia is an imperative if we are to achieve the technological breakthroughs and develop the innovative solutions needed tomorrow."

UPMC President Jean Chambaz added: "The partnership between universities and industry has to be more than ambitious, it must be audacious. UPMC has undertaken in in-depth revamp of our courses, starting with our bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. Our education is enriched by embracing this research culture, and gives our graduates the skills needed to develop creative, diversified careers. Behind the revolution in our curriculum are burgeoning links between education and research, the growth of interdisciplinary approaches and relations with business and industry. The world is facing very complex problems, calling on the full force of human intelligence and comprehensive solutions that aren’t bounded by academic disciplines. The first step we have taken today marks a pioneering partnership in expanding our graduates’ scope of job possibilities."

Safran had already welcomed several UPMC students as interns in 2012, subsequently hiring them.
